Phase 2 Phonics Worksheets — Reception

Phase 2 is typically taught during the Autumn term of Reception. Children learn the following graphemes in four sets: Set 1 (s, a, t, p), Set 2 (i, n, m, d), Set 3 (g, o, c, k), Set 4 (ck, e, u, r), Set 5 (h, b, f, ff, l, ll, ss). They also learn to read and spell high-frequency tricky words including "the", "to", "I", "no", "go", and "into". By the end of Phase 2, children should be able to blend three-phoneme words and write simple sentences.

Phonics practice is most effective when it is short, daily, and multi-sensory. Use our worksheets alongside oral blending practice: say the sounds aloud ("c–a–t"), push them together, and read the word.
